Makaha is one of the best-kept secrets on Oahu. It is still country and populated by local folks who love to "talk story,"
fish, and enjoy life.
Makaha is located on the beautiful, sunny, dry, leeward Waianae Coast. Makaha is about 45 minutes from the Honolulu
International Airport and about 55 minutes from Waikiki and Honolulu (all depends on traffic and time of day of course).
The pristine, white sand beaches along the Waianae Coast are awesome--virtually untouched by tourism. Whales are often
seen offshore during their migrating season, and dolphins and turtles frolic year-round in the clear, aqua water.
There is no fine dining in Makaha (it's about a 20-minute drive to upscale restaurants) but there are many popular fast-food
restaurants and local-style plate lunches (find out what "2 scoop" means) and plenty of stores for all the necessities.
Tamura's Super Market is a local favorite and an experience in itself!
If you are looking for BEAUTIFUL beaches, breathtaking scenery, awesome sunsets, and "local style flavor" away
from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Makaha is the place! We're not fancy, but the Aloha Spirit is alive and well in
Makaha!
Stay in Makaha to just relax and "hang loose," or make it your quiet headquarters for an island-wide vacation.
